Expert Safety Data Sheet & Chemical Label Authoring
If your company manufacturers, imports, stores or distributes hazardous chemicals in the United States, then OSHA’s adoption of GHS has created fast approaching compliance deadlines for you. By June 1, 2015, OSHA expects every hazardous chemical in the U.S. to be reclassified using newly adopted GHS health and physical hazard classification criteria.
By the same deadline, OSHA requires every MSDS to be updated to the new GHS styled safety data sheet format; the format requires MSDSs to have 16 sections in a strict order. OSHA and GHS refer to MSDSs authored in this new style as SDSs.
Once written, the SDS must be made available to downstream users, including your employees, distributors and customers. Chemical labels also have to be updated to a new GHS styled format by the June 2015 deadline. The label format includes six standard elements that correspond to information found on the SDS.
